Dear reader,
Last week, I peeled away to attend a stunning theatre production of Jane Eyre at a cozy little nook in Pasadena called A Noise Within. I’m already eyeing its schedule for future visits, but in the meantime, I was left mesmerized by how beautiful the English language is (I am not a native speaker, as English is my third language behind Russian and Armenian), and how obsessed I have been with the written word since childhood (J.E. being one of my cherished reads from childhood). I also made myself a promise to discover and revel in more theatre this year—there is something awe-inducing in the written word played out live in front of one’s eyes and ears and soul.
Savoring: I carried the high of theatre with me all week.
Watching: Dare I say it, I had to go back and dig up old BBC film adaptations of Jane Eyre, and swoon. Also listened to/watched Lorde’s latest, which caught me in an immediate nostalgic mood as I reminisced on the lines—“Step out into the street, alone in a sea. It comes over me.”—with my beloved NYC streets as the backdrop.
Reading: Added The Bell by Hans Christian Andersen to Gigi’s nighttime routine and cried. Evening winding down sessions after I put Gigi to bed include reading Matrescence + indulging in these bath flakes.
