Listful (as opposed to listless), table for two, wooden blocks, and more
Seven thin(g/k)s I explored this week
Dear reader,
Happy weekend. I dropped by a local farmers’ market yesterday evening, and it was a delight to gather seasonal fruits and pasture-raised meats. The fruit I’ll definitely work my way through in the coming days before G and I start a month of travel adventures here and there. (If anyone has tips on how to keep bananas juuuuust the right hue of yellow and green at home—the only time I tolerate mushy bananas is in banana bread—I’m all ears.) I picked up Amor Towles’s new book, Table for Two, that’ll be accompanying me on travel days. It’ll be a good distraction, as lately, I’ve been feeling slightly panicky about giving birth, like the feeling of a test coming up that I don’t know how to study for, and hence the urge to be an ostrich-in-the-sand about it, whilst I know there must be a better way of going about it.
Enough about me, though. Here are seven links to bits of the world I explored this week, shared with the hope that you will find them to be an inspiring springboard for deeper thinking.
I created a cozy home for links like books, wellness items, things that inspire hygge, etc. here. It’s still in the works, and if there’s a particular category you’d like me to address/curate, do let me know! :-) On a similar note, I recently discovered an app called Choose, which curates daily drops of unique brands. Here’s a referral code that’ll get you $20 — FCAD851D. My most recent purchase was lotion from France. Fancy shmancy sounding, but it was super discounted!
This week was filled with conversations with friends on forming daily rituals, and lo and behold, probably by some creepy algorithmic tracking, I stumbled upon (or was led to stumble upon) this nifty little collection of daily rituals of creators. Thinking of picking it up for some inspiring spring reading. Also found this book intriguing and worthy of adding to a reading list — it’s called Listful and it’s written by a linguistics researcher who explores our love of lists. I’m a list lover (who wants to lead a listless life, eh?), partly because I’m generally forgetful and partly because I like the aesthetic appeal of putting pen to paper in the form of creating doodly lists in analog, a beautiful daily ritual (yay!) in the voluminous books of our lives.
Found this piece on kindergarten fascinating, and now all I want to do is secure a set of wooden blocks to play with.
My social media is inundated with some heavy film rec posturing and marketing of Anne Hathaway’s latest, The Idea of You. It has a romantic flare to it, so yes, catering to the rom-com sucker in me, I’ll oblige this weekend.
A generation of distrust, and the disillusionment with American institutions.
I need a rewatch of Good Will Hunting asap; this scene and so many others in the film are so good!
See you next time! (Sunday subs, see you this weekend!)
Ever lovingly,
A
Planning to watch The Idea of You tonight for a Friday movie night in, I’m excited! sidenote: does Anne Hathaway never age?? and i love lists too so i must check out Listful!
